Mpumalanga Province, 1996

Mpumalanga Province, 1996

On 23 February 1996, Mpumalanga (meaning “the place where the sun rises”, the East, in the languages of the resident Ndebele and Swazi peoples), adopted a provincial flag with a design like on the province’s arms. It is gold and green, with a twisted bar of blue and white separating those, representing the mountainous landscape. A red Barberton daisy, indigenous to the province, is at the top hoist.
